Boehringer Ingelheim Employees Donate 13,162 Hours to Strengthen Communities, Exceeding 2010 Volunteerism Goal

Ridgefield, CT – December 6, 2010 – Boehringer Ingelheim today announced that its employees across the U.S. together volunteered 13,162 hours of their time this year to help individuals and families in the community, exceeding the company’s 2010 goal of 10,000 volunteer hours. The goal was set last April during National Volunteer Week as the company introduced Boehringer Ingelheim Cares VolunteerMatch – an online employee engagement system that measures and tracks employee volunteer activity and provides access to local volunteer opportunities.

“For 125 years, Boehringer Ingelheim has been committed to doing the right thing around the world and in our own backyard,” said J. Martin Carroll, President and CEO, Boehringer Ingelheim USA Corporation.  “The generosity of the many Boehringer Ingelheim employees who have volunteered in our local communities demonstrates this commitment.”

At Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in Ridgefield, CT, employees volunteered their time to help six local non-profits on United Way Day of Caring, built 27 bicycles for needy children in the Danbury area, painted 12 murals that will decorate the hallways of Danbury Hospital and other hospitals in the U.S., assembled and donated 2,000 personal care kits to help people impacted by natural disasters; raised funds for breast cancer, diabetes and childhood obesity awareness programs, and supplied 109 backpacks to needy kindergarteners in the Danbury area for their first day of school.  Employees also donated their time to help the Regional Hospice of Western CT raise funds to help patients and their families, and provided medical services at Boehringer Ingelheim AmeriCares Free Clinic.  In total, Boehringer Ingelheim Ridgefield employees donated their time and talents to more than 50 non-profit organizations in the community.

“Boehringer Ingelheim Cares VolunteerMatch is about our company’s strongest asset – our people – and measuring how much we contribute to our society – not only through our work, but through the time we give and the efforts we make to help others in need,” said Albert Ros, President and Chief Executive Officer, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
