Boehringer Ingelheim Recognized for its Diversity and Inclusion Efforts

Ridgefield, CT (March 28, 2011) - Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation recently was recognized for its diversity and inclusion program based on its policies and practices in three areas.

On March 23, the company was honored as one of the "Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality" by The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization. The "Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality" distinction is awarded to businesses that scored 100 percent on the HRC Foundation’s 2011 Corporate Equality Index, the primary method for businesses to benchmark and evaluate their policies, practices and diversity efforts relating to LGBT workers. The index evaluates non-discrimination policies, benefits, diversity training and other internal resources for LGBT workers, as well as external support for the LGBT community.

Boehringer Ingelheim was also recently named to the 2011 "NAFE Top 50 Companies for Executive Women" by the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE). The list recognizes organizations whose policies and practices encourage women’s advancement and whose numbers of women at the highest levels of leadership demonstrate that commitment. Boehringer Ingelheim's initiatives to promote gender equality in the workplace include its talent management practices resulting in a significant increase of women at senior management levels and its hiring practices to attract the best and brightest talent. This is the first time that Boehringer Ingelheim has been named a NAFE Top Company.

"Boehringer Ingelheim is a company with a long heritage as a private family-owned business of supporting our employees, patients and communities, which includes embracing a culture of diversity and inclusion," said J. Martin Carroll, president and chief executive officer of Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation. "Our commitment to diversity and inclusion is critical for Boehringer Ingelheim to attract the talent we need to develop innovative products that improve the lives of patients and families."

One of the ways Boehringer Ingelheim promotes cultural values around diversity and inclusion is through its employee diversity councils. Boehringer Ingelheim was recently recognized as having one of the "Top 25" U.S. diversity councils by the Association of Diversity Councils. This is the third year that the Association of Diversity Councils will award its prestigious Diversity Council Honors Award™ and the third year that Boehringer Ingelheim will receive the recognition. The awards, which will be presented on April 5 in Atlanta, are designed to honor the outstanding contributions and achievements of diversity council groups that lead diversity processes in organizations and demonstrate results in their workforce, workplace and marketplace.

"We are pleased to be recognized for the strategies and approaches that set us apart as an innovative workplace," said Nancy Di Dia, chief diversity officer, Office of Diversity, Inclusion & Engagement, Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation. "Our commitment to diversity and inclusion helps Boehringer Ingelheim employees reach their full potential."
